Volunteers are a crucial part of our mission at Helping Hands Food Bank and Solutions Center. With an ambitious goal of ending hunger in Skagit County through food rescue and donations, we rely on those willing to donate their time to our cause.
Whether you’re interested in sorting and packing produce for a family in need, driving mobile route to our home bound participants, supporting our food distributions, writing personalized cards to thank our generous donors, or helping in another way – we’re glad you’re here!
Volunteer Opportunities

Mobile Delivery
Job Description: Delivering groceries to participants who are homebound and CHOW bags for local kids. Helping Hands staff will provide you a list of addresses and you are welcome to drive your own vehicle or use a HHFB van.
Time Commitment: Mobile delivery routes are available Tuesday – Friday, and take 2 – 3 hours to complete.
Requirements: This job requires proof of a valid driver’s license and car insurance, the ability to get in and out of a vehicle repeatedly, and ability to lift and carry boxes and bags up to 20 lbs.

Grocery Rescue
Job Description: Accompany staff to local stores to pick up donations, then head back to the warehouse to unload.
Time Commitment: Monday – Friday, Expect to arrive at 8 am and finish unloading by 1 pm.
Requirements: This job requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and get in and out of a box truck repeatedly.

Sorting Produce
Job Description: Produce sorters organize all food donations from grocery rescue and local farmers. If the produce is inedible, it is donated to local pig farmers. Edible produce gets sorted into black crates for distributions.
Time Commitment: Volunteers are welcome to work any time on Monday – Friday between 7:30 am – 4 pm .
Requirements: Tolerance for repetitive movement and a willingness to handle slightly squishy produce.

Distribution
Job Description: Volunteers can help with distribution set up, support, and clean up at any of the six distribution locations.
Time Commitment: Set up starts an hour before the scheduled distribution. Volunteers are welcome to work as long as they’d like.
Requirements: Ability to lift 20 – 50 lbs. is ideal but not mandatory. Customer service skills are a plus since you will be working with participants.

Pack CHOW bags
Job Description: Grab a plastic bag and fill it with two breakfasts, two lunches, and four snacks, remember to double knot the bag so nothing falls out! This is a great activity for kids.
Time Commitment: CHOW bags are packed Monday – Friday, depending on volunteer availability.
Requirements: Tolerance for repetitive movements.
